Little John’s Bow Update
Posted by Robert Fortunaso, 18/2/2025
Thanks to Barnsley Museums I have kindly been informed that Little John’s bow will be on permanent display at the Cannon Hall Museum, when the hall reopens in April. Thanks also to the curator for giving permission to display the images below.
The bow with case.
Col Naylor emblazoned on the grip.
The note accompanying the case: ‘at Cannon Hall – The celebrated Bow of Little John of Sherwood …. measures …. 6ft 7in.’
CURATORS NOTE:
Long bow made from yew. Spencer Stanhope family legend indicates that the bow was owned by Little John. The bow will be placed on permanent display at Cannon Hall Museum near Barnsley after the completion of the current building work on the roof.
Please visit the website https://www.cannon-hall.com/ or telephone 01226 772002 for opening hours and further information.
